The World Surf League announced that the Pacific Surf Open, which would take place in Acapulco from October 17 to 20, will be postponed until 2025 due to the damage caused by the John phenomenon.

“Due to the current situation in Acapulco following Hurricane John, we understand that this is not the time to celebrate the surf festival,” the World Surf League (WSL) said Monday.

Last Friday, authorities reported that the impact of the John phenomenon, recorded on September 23, left at least 236,000 affected in the state of Guerrero.

The surfing event would take place at Revolcadero beach, located in the diamond zone, where John caused serious flooding.

The league’s organizing committee specified that it does not currently have a defined date to hold the event next year.

However, the WSL highlighted that for the economy and visibility of the Guerrero port, the Pacific Surf Open party in Acapulco has been fundamental, so it clarified that as soon as conditions are favorable in 2025, the event will be held.

The surf festival in Acapulco in 2025 would then celebrate its ninth edition. The event includes women’s and men’s categories, and 40 thousand dollars in prizes.
