Crime and violence are the main concern for 59% of people surveyed in Mexico by the Ipsos firm.
It is followed by inflation (38%), unemployment (29%), corruption (27%) and poverty (23%) according to the study “What worries the world?”
Regarding concern about crime and violence, Mexico is in third position worldwide, only after Peru (65%) and Chile (64%), according to the global firm specialized in market research and surveys. .
The countries that were least concerned about the issue were Hungary (8%) and Poland (7%).
Regarding the direction of the country, the results are divided almost in half. 51% consider that Mexico is going in the right direction, while 49% believe the opposite.
Compared to the results of the previous year, people who think that the country is going in the right direction decreased by 10%. Compared to the global average that considers the direction of its country correct (36%), Mexico is “optimistic.”
For Ipsos, Mexico’s economic context generates conflicting opinions among citizens and reflects a polarized perception, since 56% of Mexicans consider that the country’s economic situation is bad, which could be related to factors such as inflation, unemployment or uncertainty in the markets.
On the other hand, 44% perceive the economy positively, probably influenced by improvements in certain sectors. Compared to the results of the previous year, the perception of 10% of people changed, now more people view the economy with concern.
In other countries, concerns stand out that, although they are not a priority in Mexico, should receive greater attention. Among them are climate change, education and the health system, issues that only concern 19% of the Mexicans surveyed. Likewise, immigration controls generate alarm in only 10% of the participants.
The company highlighted that Covid-19 is no longer a predominant concern globally, since only 2% of people in the world expressed concern about this issue, reflecting a significant decrease in risk perception.
In Mexico, the percentage of those who are still concerned is 3%, remaining below the average of previous years, while Malaysia is positioned as the country with the highest level of concern, with 7%, which indicates that, although the pandemic has lost much relevance as a widespread concern, regional differences still persist.
