Sydney Sweeney made headlines for a risqué publicity stunt to promote her upcoming lingerie line. The Euphoria actress’s plan certainly worked, but she may now face legal consequences if the owners of the iconic Hollywood sign choose to press charges.

Sweeney posted a video to her Instagram Monday. It showed the actress alongside her team driving up to the Hollywood sign in the dead of night with black duffel bags. After a staged break-in, the group rappelled up to the base of the iconic sign. They then daisy-chained bras together before climbing the letters, covering them in underwear.

The video flashed up the word ‘SYRN’ at the end. On Tuesday, the Anyone But You star posted another picture revealing that ‘SYRN’ is the name of her lingerie line. “Our four SYRNs: Seductress, Romantic, Playful, and Comfy,” the caption reads. A separate post reads: “The secret is finally out… Say hello to @syrn. This is lingerie you wear for YOU, no explanation, no apology.”

Sweeney’s posts quickly reached more than 1 million likes, indicating they clearly had an impact. However, scaling the sign may not have been part of the arrangement. According to a report by TMZ, the White Lotus actress obtained a permit from FilmLA to shoot at the location. However, she did not have permission to climb or even touch the sign. The outlet also notes that FilmLA does not own the landmark. Instead, it belongs to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

TMZ cites an email from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce stating that Sweeney’s team could not film at the landmark without their approval. The outlet recently updated its report as it received a response to its query, “if they would file a police report for vandalism and/or trespass.” The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce reportedly replied, “We are still investigating how and under what authority (if any) the Sweeney production accessed the site of the Sign.”

Steve Nissen, the President and CEO of the organization, also replied to a similar query from People. He reportedly told the outlet they were unaware of the publicity stunt, and Sweeney’s team was “not authorized by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Anyone intending to use and/or access the Hollywood Sign for commercial purposes must obtain a license or permission from the Hollywood Chamber to do so.”

It remains unclear whether the organization will press charges, but ABC7 reported Monday that it inquired with the LAPD and that no charges were on file.
