Taylor Swift said Tuesday that she plans to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in November’s presidential election โ and that AI-generated photos circulating of herself prompted her in part to publicize her support.
โI recently learned that the AI โโof ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted on his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,โ Swift wrote in an Instagram post. “This has brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very clear about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is the truth.”
His post refers to an incident in late August, in which Trump shared a collection of photos on Truth Social intended to show support for his presidential campaign. Some of the images depict “Swifties for Trump,” and another clearly AI-generated image shows Swift herself in an Uncle Sam-type image with text that reads, “Taylor wants to vote YOU are Donald Trump.” The former president captioned the post, โI accept!โ
In her endorsement post, Swift also mentioned LGBTQ rights, reproductive care, and IVF as specific issues she cares about. He also directed fans to his Instagram story, where he added a link to register to vote.
Some AI companies have lifted restrictions on the tools in an effort to reduce election-related misinformation. Google, for example, recently announced that it would limit election queries to AI Overviews, the company’s AI-powered search results feature.
