In the midst of the riots, a group of dissatisfied assured that the aggressors are not part of the teaching.
“They are not teachers! They are not teachers!” They said; While others shouted “Claudia, you said, that’s why you didn’t go out!”, In reference to President Sheinbaum has refused to meet them.
This is the first violent confrontation that occurs between teachers and police after 21 days of national unemployment in the Mexican capital.
Teachers demand better working conditions, including repealing the pension law and the 100% increase in their salary, in addition to having a direct dialogue with the president.
During his morning press conference, Sheinbaum said Wednesday that the Police or the National Guard against protests would not be used.
“We are not going to use the Police or the National Guard to ever repress anyone. The dialogue is always sought,” he said.
Teachers have rejected the federal government proposal that, among other things, has offered them freezing retirement age, since they consider that they do not meet their demands.
On May 15, in the framework of the commemoration of teacher’s day, Sheinbaum announced a salary increase of retroactive 9% as of January, and will reach 10% in September, in addition to an additional week of vacation.
The president has argued that there is no budget to meet their demands.
