The deputy director of Communication and Government Relations of América Móvil, Renato Flores, assured that there was no leak of Telcel user data after the “technical failure” detected on the site enabled to register the operator’s telephone lines.

The manager told Grupo Formula that the portal was offline for about two hours, during which time specialized personnel carried out an evaluation to run tests and establish additional security layers.

“There is no information or massive leakage of user data,” he said.

He added that layers of cybersecurity are continuously and permanently implemented, so that users are certain that the information is well protected.

By official provision, as of January 9, it will be mandatory in Mexico to associate mobile telephone lines with a natural or legal person, regardless of the contracting method. The measure is part of guidelines to eliminate the anonymity that allows lines to be used to commit crimes.

The authorities assure that the information will be protected by telephone operators and will comply with the Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties.

If they are not linked before June 30, the mobile lines will be disabled and only emergency calls, citizen assistance and calls to the telephone service provider can be made to make the corresponding registration.
