The peculiar golden tigresses with cream-colored fur and big eyes from a zoo in northern Thailand have caused a sensation on the internet after attracting crowds of people to shows where they perform different tricks for which they have been trained.
Unusually colored Bengal tigresses, like sisters Ava and Luna, both 3 years old, are only found in animal breeding centers or zoos, and not in the wild, explains Patcharee Pipatwongchai, tiger trainer at the Chiang Mai Night Safari. .
The twin sisters, born in captivity, debuted at the zoo in June and became a success after appearing on social networks.
They sell out the venue, with capacity for 500 people, where the shows are held four days a week, in which they perform tricks with their trainer.
“Seeing this tigress, I think she is incredibly intelligent and capable of amazing performances like this. I am glad that Chiang Mai has such intelligent animals as its main attraction,” said visitor Wirunya Punyokit, from Chiang Mai.
According to the Thai National Parks website, the rare pigmentation of these animals is the result of recessive genes that give them thick, pale gold fur and legs with faint orange stripes.
Before the tigresses, another Thai zoo south of Bangkok attracted thousands of visitors with another animal that had become an internet sensation, a baby hippopotamus named Moo Deng.
