An alleged intellectual author of the murder of Mayor Carlos Manzo, identified as Jorge Antonio ‘N’, alias El Licensed, was admitted this Friday to the maximum security prison El Altiplano, in the State of Mexico, after his arrest on Wednesday in Michoacán.

The Attorney was transferred from Mil Cumbres, a prison in Michoacán that he entered on Thursday night, to El Altiplano, where he arrived around 5:00 a.m. this day, according to the first reports.

The detainee is accused of being one of the intellectual authors of the murder of the municipal president of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, on November 1, during a public event for the Day of the Dead, a crime that has generated a wave of indignation in the country.

The prison transfer was carried out by land, guarded by a strong police force, headed by the Secretariats of the Navy, Defense and Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

In a statement, the Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office explained that on Thursday night an arrest warrant was issued against the detainee for the crimes of qualified homicide and injuries.

According to the State Prosecutor’s Office, investigations indicate that three men participated in the direct attack: the subject who shot and was killed at the scene, and two others who carried out “monitoring and logistical tasks”, who were found dead on November 10.

Regarding the intellectual authors, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that “indications were found that there was coordination, step by step, of the criminal operation.”

“And that there were precise instructions on monitoring the mayor, his movements, the routes used and the final execution of the attack,” the note added.

In relation to these lines of investigation, Jorge Antonio ‘N’, alias El Licensed, was arrested in Morelia, capital of Michoacán.

When announcing the arrest on Wednesday, the head of the SSPC, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed that Manzo’s murder is linked to a criminal group in the area related to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).

Harfuch also stated that Grecia Quiroz, Manzo’s widow and current municipal president of Uruapan, has security provided by the Army, in addition to the fact that there is a deployment of the Armed Forces throughout the state.

Manzo’s murder has generated numerous protests both in Michoacán and in the rest of Mexico, amid violence due to organized crime in several regions of the country.
