The American Society of Mexico (AMSOC) asked the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum to comply with the commercial treaty with the United States and Canada (TMEC), in addition to improving the fight against issues that impact both countries, such as fentanyl, weapons traffic and illegal migration.

“The fight against fentanil, organized crime, today called terrorist groups and respect for the commitments signed in the TMEC can no longer wait,” he said during a pronouncement, Larry Rubin, president of the AMSOC.

During a dinner in honor of the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, Rubin said that the bilateral relationship is very complex and that both nations are needed, however, he said that the two governments should be demanded more.

He pointed out that the imposition of 30% tariffs on Mexican products from next August 1, announced this Saturday by President Donald Trump, is “direct consequence of the lack of effective action on issues that impact not only trade, but also health and national health” of both countries.

He pointed out that the letter sent Friday by President Trump to Sheinbaum and that it was made public this Saturday, “it is not a threat, it is a strategic alert” and said that the bilateral relationship is a priority for the peoples of both countries, but it must be supported by “results, not in speeches.”

He also accused that there were “governmental omissions” by Mexico that put at risk the preferential access of this country to the US market and assured that to this the “irritating” of the TMEC are added that “they are no longer” technical details, they are serious obstacles to shared development. “

He said that by not complying with what was agreed in the treaty “the future of our regional competitiveness is at stake.”

“It is time to act, not justify or postpone. If Mexico wants to maintain and strengthen its place in North America, it must fulfill. Not partially, not symbolically, it must fully fulfill what it agreed. Because Mexico is not one more partner, it is the first commercial partner of the United States,” he settled.

American Society demands better results against migration and organized crime in Mexico

He recalled that Mexico was able to replace a world giant like China and that is why “we should live up to the commitments that exist between our governments.”

He stressed that the bilateral relationship requires long -term reciprocity, seriousness and vision and therefore Mexico must comply with the fight against organized crime.

“We need a firmer, deeper and more effective cooperation among our countries,” he said.

He said that strengthening the relationship benefits investors, but also Mexicans who depend on commerce, employment, remittances and cooperation to have better living conditions.

For his part, the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, said his country wants a safe but efficient border, so he emphasized that both nations have to work together to achieve it.

“We want a safe but also efficient border, closed to all the illegal but open to what is good for us,” said Washington’s representative.

Johnson emphasized that, although Mexico and the United States have a lot in common, you have to work together to ensure the border between Mexico and the United States and stop the fentanyl and illegal migration.

“Together we can make the vision of strength and prosperity a reality,” he said.
