The best thing for Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez would be for him to leave Formula 1 and enjoy his family, according to his father Antonio Pérez Garibay.
The driver’s father stated that there are currently no offers from other teams for ‘Checo’, and added that as a father, he would love for Sergio to dedicate time to his family.
“The fans must be very happy and very satisfied that Checo gave 120% in every race and every weekend,” he told W Radio this Wednesday.
The Mexican driver thanked the Red Bull Formula 1 team this Wednesday for his four-year stay, after the Austrian team announced his departure.
Over four seasons with that team, ‘Checo’, 34, was runner-up in drivers in 2023 and achieved 29 podiums.
The departure of ‘Checo’ comes after a 2024 in which he had many problems with his car, which led him to finish in eighth place in the championship.
“You know he was risking his life with so much pressure, with so many problems, (with) an unmanageable car. “You don’t wish that on your son,” the father argued.
In May, ‘Checo’ had signed a two-year contract with Red Bull, which did not prevent his departure.
‘Checo would not return to a team from below’
Regarding a possible offer for the driver, Antonio Pérez expressed that his son is no longer there to compete in “bottom” teams, but rather in renowned teams.
“I am sure that if he had an opportunity to return to Formula 1, Checo would not return to a team from below. If an opportunity came, I would take a chance from the strong teams at the top, but coming back to be in tenth, and playing with a Sauber, an Audi, Checo is no longer up to that,” he stated.

Toño Pérez chose the Monaco race as his son’s favorite participation with Red Bull, and stated that it will be difficult for the Mexican fans to see a driver like Sergio again: “It is very difficult for the Mexican fans to see a Mexican driver succeed again in Monaco”.
He assured that Red Bull will continue to be the number one team for some time and expressed his support for it to be champion next year.
New Zealand driver Liam Lawson is expected to be announced in the coming days as the one chosen to fill the place left by ‘Checo’ Pérez.
