Chuck Lorre is now compelled to not make the same mistake that CBS committed involving Penny after Kaley Cuoco’s latest comments about The Big Bang Theory franchise. Since 2017, the network has exclusively been the home of the nerd-centric franchise. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage continues the universe on the broadcaster during the 2025-2026 TV season, but later this year, that is about to change when Lorre expands the franchise once again.
Seven years after The Big Bang Theory ended, the flagship remains ever popular, both via syndication and streaming. While the franchise has thrived with spinoffs, both of its offshoots thus far have been prequels, with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage barely any ties to the original show. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, however, changes that with The Big Bang Theory‘s first sequel story, which means that it has the chance to fix a major CBS mistake when handling Cuoco’s character.
Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Has No Excuse Not To Bring Back Penny
In Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Kevis Sussman’s Stuart Bloom takes center stage, as he goes on an multiversal adventure to prevent reality from fully disintegrating. Admittedly, its premise is significantly different from its predecessors, but since its base reality is still set in the same canon, bringing back anyone from the Pasadena gang is easily workable. It’s especially effortless with Penny, considering Cuoco re-emphasizing her love for Lorre and how she will always be open to stepping back into that world.
CBS Lost The Perfect Sci-Fi Show To Revive The Genre On Network TV
Despite its history w/ the franchise , CBS still lost the bid to air the perfect sci-fi series that can revive the genre for traditional broadcasting.
The actor has always been open about having an affinity for Lorre and her The Big Bang Theory character, Penny. So it was massively disappointing when the Young Sheldon finale failed to bring back Sheldon’s best friend for the flashforward scene that featured Jim Parsons’ version of the character. The prequel did name-drop Penny, but it would have been better to see her. Beyond that, given Cuoco’s stance on the matter, it was likely that she was not invited to do a cameo, even though she would have done it. Hopefully, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.
How Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Can Benefit From Kaley Cuoco’s Return As Penny
Because of its more creative story, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe should not have any scarcity of ideas on how to utilize an appearance from Penny. It can be a short cameo in the base reality, so it can offer a substantial update on how life has been treating her and perhaps, also shed a light on whether Leonard is really dead. However, she could also return in one of the universes that the show will tackle for a more fun appearance.
Regardless, seeing Cuoco back on the screen as her beloved character will have a major impact in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe‘s profile. The main Pasadena gang members are still widely loved, and having the chance to see them again will likely boost the interest in The Big Bang Theory‘s upcoming sequel spinoff.

The Big Bang Theory is a media franchise that has expanded from the original titular TV show that follows a group of friends who live near and with one another as they attempt to bridge social gaps due to their geeky nature and further their scientific pursuits. The show eventually spun off with a TV special and a prequel series, Young Sheldon, which follows the origins of Sheldon Cooper and how he rose to become the brilliant physicist he is.
