The Cheapest Disney World Theme Park To Visit

Let’s just say this: If you’re on a budget but still want a full-day Walt Disney World experience in Orlando, Florida, your best bet is to head to Animal Kingdom.

Walt Disney World is made up of four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Admission ticket prices are dynamic, varying by day (weekends in February, March and April tend to be the most expensive) and by park.

NerdWallet analyzed dozens of ticket prices using publicly available data on Walt Disney World’s ticketing page, for dates between September 2025 and October 2026. Of the four Walt Disney World parks in Orlando, Florida, Animal Kingdom consistently ranks as the least expensive. Here’s how it shakes out:

  • Animal Kingdom tickets were 10% to 17% cheaper than Magic Kingdom tickets, translating to about $20 to $25 in savings per person.

  • Epcot and Hollywood Studios were close in price (and sometimes had the same ticket price per day), but Hollywood Studios tended to be the pricier of the two.

  • Magic Kingdom reliably came out as the most expensive park.

For example, on a day where Animal Kingdom tickets cost $119, Magic Kingdom tickets might cost $144. For a family of four, choosing Animal Kingdom over Magic Kingdom could easily save $80 to $100 for a single-day visit.

Why Animal Kingdom is the cheapest

Why the markdown? Part of it comes down to basic demand. According to 2023 data from the Themed Entertainment Association, Animal Kingdom is the least-attended of the four Disney parks in Florida.

Magic Kingdom, which has the iconic Cinderella Castle and popular rides like Space Mountain, is the flagship park with the highest demand. Animal Kingdom is often seen as a “half-day park” — a perception that keeps its prices slightly lower.

But Animal Kingdom’s reputation as the quiet sibling isn’t entirely fair. Unlike Magic Kingdom, where crowds stampede toward Cinderella Castle, Animal Kingdom unfolds slowly. Even the entrance forces you to wander through lush, shaded paths before you ever see a gift shop or ride.

Animal Kingdom is equal parts theme park and zoo, offering one-of-a-kind attractions you won’t find elsewhere in Disney World. Its standout attraction — Kilimanjaro Safaris — makes you feel like you’re bouncing across the Serengeti on a real safari. And yes, real giraffes, lions and elephants are all part of it.

Magic Kingdom has five thrill rides, but Animal Kingdom still holds up strong with four.

And the entertainment does not fail to impress. The Festival of the Lion King is a Broadway-caliber theater show, complete with fire dancers and soaring acrobatics is one of the entertainment options included with your ticket.

Will it always be the cheapest? Maybe not

Animal Kingdom might be the least-popular Disney World theme park at the moment — but that could change. The park is about to expand in a big way.

Development is underway on Tropical Americas land, an 11-acre land inspired by Central and South America. The area is slated to open in 2027, and will feature a sprawling village square, a family-friendly carousel, and two headliners:

  • An Indiana Jones-themed ride.

  • The first-ever “Encanto” ride-through attraction, where guests step inside the film’s famous casita and travel with the film’s character, Antonio, and his rainforest-filled room.

The park might fly under the radar for now, but in the coming years, these new attractions might transform it into a much bigger draw.

How to make your trip cheaper

  • Visit in late summer. August and September offer the lowest overall ticket costs across Disney World. Pair that with Animal Kingdom’s baseline pricing, and you’re stacking discounts.

  • Check for promotions. Disney often offers limited-time deals, like half-price kids’ tickets with multi-day purchases.

  • Use discounts and points. AAA memberships, military discounts, or even certain credit card rewards can shave dollars off ticket costs.

  • Shop from authorized resellers. Reputable ticket resellers like Undercover Tourist offer discounted tickets to Disney and other theme parks.

Animal Kingdom is worth a visit

Magic Kingdom may be the crown jewel, but Animal Kingdom is underrated and the most affordable Disney park in Orlando. With Broadway-level entertainment, real animal encounters and major expansions on the horizon, it’s more than just the “cheap park.” It’s a park that offers high value for the price, especially if you know when to go.
