The judge investigating the death of the founder of the Spanish fashion multinational Mango, Isak Andic, changed from witness to investigating the legal status of his son Jonathan, who was with him when he died, while the Mossos (Catalan regional police) investigate the case as a possible homicide.

According to a publication this Friday by the newspaper El País, the investigating court number 5 of Martorell (Barcelona) provisionally closed the investigation in January, after the Mossos concluded that Andic’s death was accidental, but reopened it two months later to carry out new proceedings.

Initially, the Catalan police concluded that Andic, who had gone on a hike with his eldest son on December 14, 2024 to take a route through the saltpeter caves of Collbató (Barcelona), died after slipping on one of the trails and falling into the void from about 150 meters high.

Andic’s eldest son is the main suspect

However, El País reveals, certain inconsistencies in the statements of the businessman’s eldest son, current vice president of Mango, fueled the suspicions of the Mossos, who chose to carry out new procedures to clarify whether the death of the founder of Mango was a mountain accident or a homicide.

Furthermore, according to the same media, which cites various sources familiar with the investigation of the case, which is under summary secrecy, a relevant testimony was that of Estefanía Knuth, the deceased’s romantic partner and who influenced the bad relations between father and son.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the family recalls that in all these months since Andic’s death they did not comment on it nor will they do so, but was convinced that this process “will end as soon as possible and Jonathan’s innocence will be proven.”

“Of course, he wants to show his respect with the procedures that have been carried out in this regard and will continue to collaborate as before with the competent authorities,” adds the family statement.
