Eight years is as long time to wait in gaming. In fact, it’s reasonable to predict that a game that was first announced back in June 2018, should already be on our screens now, surely? Well, Todd Howard first announced The Elder Scrolls 6 all those years ago at E3 and gamers have been left out in the cold ever since.
Thinking that we should at least have seen perhaps gameplay footage or, at the very least, a teaser trailer in that time is reasonable, right? Alas, anyone hedging their bets that 2026 might be the year we see a Skyrim successor might be in for a rude awakening. Thanks to a leak on X, which was initially reported by The Verge, nothing even remotely looks like The Elder Scrolls 6 is on Xbox’s timeline for 2026. It seems the wait continues.
No Sign of Skyrim Sequel
Although there are some great reveals on this unconfirmed timeline for Microsoft XBox, there isn’t even a mention of The Elder Scrolls 6. No plan to start it, no mention of trailers or gameplay reveals, absolutely nothing. This can only mean that presumably, The Elder Scrolls 6 is a long way off, which is bad news for Skyrim fans or RPG fans in general. Sure, we’re getting some Elder Scrolls surprises thanks to the Switch 2, but The Elder Scrolls 6 certainly isn’t one of them.
It seems that earlier predictions that we would have The Elder Scrolls 6 in our hands by June 2026 were way off the mark and incredibly optimistic. While the leak mentions new content for Starfield, which might inject a bit of life into that game, and even a new gaming controller, which is nice, there is nothing to suggest we’ll be exploring new regions of Tamriel any time soon.
The Fallout 3 Remaster Got Referenced, At Least…
Wasteland Adventure While We Wait
Yes, the lack of information about The Elder Scrolls 6 is disappointing, but some of the leaks were quite eye-catching. For example, the Fallout 3 remaster gets a mention and is currently suggested to be in development, which is great news for anyone wanting to revisit the District of Columbia after escaping from Vault 101.
Getting to take on The Enclave in crisp 4K graphics on modern hardware sounds like a fantastic way to revisit such a classic game. A timely launch this year, too, would help to capitalize on the popularity of the TV series, with the Season 2 finale having just recently aired. We recently got a surprise new trailer from Bethesda which only helped raise some hype for gamers who are very much looking forward to new content this year.
With Fable, a Fallout 3 remaster and new Starfield content all coming this year, Bethesda seem to have their hands quite full. With The Elder Scrolls 6 now looking further away than ever, let’s hope it doesn’t take as long as Duke Nukem Forever. In fact, let’s hope it doesn’t resemble that game whatsoever!
