The American actress, screenwriter, producer and photographer, Diane Keaton, who died today at the age of 79, one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars, with an unmistakable style and class, will be remembered for many works but above all for being the eternal ‘Annie Hall’, a role that earned her her only Oscar.
Woody Allen’s favorite actress, with whom he filmed several of his great works, was born in Los Angeles, California (USA) on January 5, 1946.
Daughter of an engineer and an art photographer, she attended the Santa Ana and Crange COSAT university centers, but soon left to pursue her vocation at just 19 years old, obtaining a scholarship to study dramatic art in New York. It was in that city where he began his artistic career, singing and dancing with the group ‘The Roadrunners’.
The first time she went on stage was to participate in the chorus of the musical ‘Hair’, a play in which she debuted in 1968 as a supporting actress, and in which she obtained the leading role shortly after.
This theatrical success led the muse to find her artist, and she began her career with Woody Allen, and, together with him, she performed the theatrical version of ‘Dreams of a Seducer’ (1969).
His debut on the big screen was only a year later with the film ‘Loverstang other stangers’, in 1970, the beginning of his golden era, in which he participated in two collaborations that would mark his career.

In 1977, she would reach the top with ‘Annie Hall’. Her portrayal of the neurotic and witty Annie earned her the Oscar for best actress, establishing her as a cultural icon.
He continued to direct Allen in ‘Interiores’ (1978), for which he won the Fotogramas de Plata in Spain, and in ‘Manhattan’ (1979). In this period he also shone in ‘One Hundred Ways to Love’ (1976) and ‘Looking for Mr. Goobar’ (1977).
In the eighties he demonstrated his breadth of records: In 1981, he starred in Warren Beatty’s ‘Reds’, a role that gave him his second Oscar nomination, which he ultimately did not get.
It was at this stage that Keaton began to explore her role behind the camera, making her directorial debut with the short ‘What does Dorrie want?’ (1982) and the documentary ‘Heaven’ (1984-1985).
In 1984 she directed and acted in ‘The Girl with the Drum’, and continued adding successes as an actress in ‘Crímenes del corazón’ (1986), ‘Días de radio’ (1987) and ‘The good mother’ (1988).
The nineties brought her back to Coppola’s franchise with ‘The Godfather III’ (1990) and she continued to explore profiles, as she launched herself as a producer on ‘The Lemon Sisters’ (1990) and won over the public in the family comedy ‘Father of the Bride’ (1991) alongside Steve Martin.
He returned to directing in 1995 with ‘Heroes a la Fuerza’ and returned to an Oscar nomination for ‘Marvin’s Room’ (1996), before participating in ‘Enredos de Sociedad’ (2000) and ‘Plan B’ (2001).
Her ability to conquer the box office and critics in adulthood was confirmed in 2004 with the romantic comedy ‘When you least expect it’, co-starring with Jack Nicholson, which earned her the Golden Globe for best comedy actress and her fourth and last Oscar nomination.
Subsequently, he continued to chain successful roles, mainly in the comedy genre, with titles such as ‘Because I said so’ (2007), ‘Morning Glory’ (2010), ‘Christmas, well or with family?’ (2015) and the successful ‘Book Club’ franchise (2018), whose sequel premiered in 2023.
In 2024 he participated in the documentary about Steve Martin and released the films ‘Summer Camp’ and ‘Arthur’s Whiskey’.
Throughout her brilliant career, Keaton was recognized with numerous awards, including a BAFTA, two David di Donatello awards (one of them honorary) and two Golden Globes. In 2017, the AFI (American Film Institute) awarded her the award for her entire career, consolidating her legacy.
She became a single mother at age fifty when she adopted her two sons, Dexter and Duke, in 1996 and 2001, respectively. In her love life, she has been paired with director Woody Allen, with whom she shared a large part of her filmography.
