The toy Mattel took the first Barbie on Wednesday with a glucose monitor in the arm to control type 1 diabetes, with the aim of giving visibility to the disease among children and generating a sense of inclusion and empathy from childhood.
In a press release issued in Madrid, the company reports that the model and actress Laura Sánchez, who was detected by type 1 diabetes four years ago, will be the doll ambassador to Spain and in charge of presenting her to the child public.
The doll saw a blue polka dotter attire that are the world symbols that represent the awareness of diabetes, and wears a bag, also blue, for supplies or snacks necessary for when it is away from home.

It also has other medical devices such as an insulin pump that carries at the waist and allows automatic administration.
The doll has been developed in collaboration with the World Research and Defense Organization of Diabetes Type 1 ‘Breakthrough T1D’ and has the support of the Diabetescero Foundation, dedicated to financing and accelerating research to find a cure for this autoimmune disease.
Mattel and the Diabetescero Foundation have agreed that it is that Barbie naturally shows the devices that many children with diabetes use daily and make their lives much easier.
