Google Maps has already changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico for that of America after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that launched the process of changing the denomination.
The name of the Gulf changed alone in the United States, while in the rest of the world the two denominations appear, as Google anticipated in its X account on January 27.
“We have received some questions about the names on Google Maps. We have a usual practice when applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources, ”Google explained in his message.
However, the changes only affect users who access maps in the United States, since the two denominations will appear in the rest of the world.
Lee: Sheinbaum government asks Google to correct what ‘erroneously’ calls ‘Gulf of America’ erroneously
At the end of January, Trump promised that the Gulf of Mexico would rename, and this Sunday he appointed February 9 as the day of the Gulf of America.
“Today I make my first visit to the Gulf of America since the name was changed. While my administration restores American pride for the history of American greatness, it is appropriate for our great nation to meet and commemorate this transcendental occasion, ”he said yesterday in a statement.
The name change caused a great controversy, and even the Mexican government requested in a letter to the Executive Director of the multinational, Sussian Pichai, which corrects the “erroneously” area called now Gulf of America.
