The international image of the United States has precipitated from the return of President Donald Trump to the White House, especially for its management of global issues such as the climatic crisis, the economy or the conflict in Gaza, according to a survey conducted in more than 20 countries.

The survey, prepared by the American Studies Center Pew Research Center, revealed on Wednesday that confidence in the United States had decreased among the citizens of 19 of the 24 countries in which the survey was conducted, and that they are distributed throughout the world.

The greatest changes were recorded in Mexico, with a loss of 32 % of confidence in the neighboring country, and in Sweden, where the fall was 28 %.

In addition, other allied countries of the United States such as Spain, Germany, Japan or France now have a more unfavorable opinion of Washington that a year ago.

This setback is much greater among those citizens who claim to have an ideology more in line with the ideas attributed to the left, than among those who claim to be voters of more conservative parties.

The main reasons, according to the report, so that the image of the United States has precipitated, is the management by Trump of global impact themes.

Just 21 % of respondents expressed confidence in the Republican to manage the climatic crisis. In the rest of the issues, such as the conflict in Gaza, the economy, relations with China or the war in Ukraine, just a third of the participants trusted Trump to find a solution.

The ability to manage immigration policy, one of the main battle horses used by Trump to return to the White House, was the one that recorded a higher number of supporters: that only 36 % of respondents were limited.

Among the most used qualifiers to describe the tycoon, the “arrogant”, “strong leader” and “dangerous” stood out. Only 28% considered that Trump was “honest.”

This generalized negative vision of the United States was not, on the contrary, shared by all countries.

In Israel and Nigeria, the confidence deposited reached 83 and 78% respectively, which represents a 6% increase in both cases. Türkiye was the one that experienced a greater increase in his opinion of the United States – of 7% – although the total figure remains low: only one in four Turks surveyed had a favorable opinion of Washington.

Also in India and in South Africa there were slight favorable changes to the United States.
