A new and free open-world RPG blends The Last of Us with Rust, and if you’re a fan of either, you may have just found a new game to throw yourself into. There are plenty of free-to-play games available across multiple platforms, though there are arguably more of them on Steam. For instance, there are currently five great games for free on Steam that you can download now and keep forever.

There is an upcoming free game set to be released on Steam soon, and it may please you. With a specific release date that has yet to be announced, CrisisX will be released later in 2026 as a free-to-play game. CrisisX is a third-person shooter game that puts you in an open world to explore and survive as you rummage through resources and fend off the infected.

CrisisX Looks Staggeringly Huge, & It’s Free

The RPG Has A Massive Map & Up To 5,000 Players Per Server

In CrisisX, you’ll be able to cooperate with others or battle against them, disputing resources and territory, and it should be a widespread fight. According to the description on the game’s page on Steam, the open-world map is around 1,200 km², proportionally speaking. The developers at Hero Games also say that a single server for the game will be able to support 5,000 simultaneous players, which could make it chaotic in the best possible way.

Covering this large territory, there will also be 12 terrains and bio-environments in the free game on Steam. You can expect a wide variety of areas to venture through, such as hot and cold environments, as well as towns, laboratories, gelid mountaintops, and rivers. Based on what’s been shown so far, CrisisX is going to be a massive game, and it’s surprising that it is a completely free title for all.

There’s Traces Of Rust & The Last Of Us

CrisisX Has A Heavy Focus On Survival

CrisisX is a third-person shooter that draws some inspiration from games like The Last of Us, but it also has some traces of Rust. Like in the world crafted by Naughty Dog, there are also infected humans in CrisisX, and surviving the threat imposed by both them and the living in a post-apocalyptic world will make you feel at home – even if the game does not have such a heavy focus on narrative depth.

The survival and crafting aspects of CrisisX make it reminiscent of Rust, too. You’ll have to get resources, manage your character’s hunger, and be wary of other dangers, like thirst, poison, disease, and wild animals. CrisisX will enable you to mine, lumber, fight, and much more to increase your odds of survival.

Interested players can already wishlist CrisisX, but will have to keep an eye out for its release date announcement, expected to occur later this year. Once it is released, however, it’s quite likely that this RPG will take over your life, considering how large it seems to be.
