The León Club, which is directed by the Argentine Eduardo Berizzo and where the Colombian James Rodríguez plays, was out of the Club World Cup, because they cannot play teams of the same owner and in the competition is El Pachuca, which belongs – like that – to the Pachuca group, FIFA reported Friday.
In a press release, the top football body explained that, after a disciplinary procedure, initially evaluated by the Disciplinary Commission and then transferred to the Appeal Commission, the Lion cannot participate in the competition when sharing owner with another picture of the contest, the Pachuca.
“Under article 10, section 4 of the FIFA 2025 Club World Cup regulations, FIFA has decided not to admit to the León Club in the competition and announce the club that will replace it in due time,” according to the text of the resolution.
Los Tuzos, name by which Pachuca is known, are the main team of the Pachuca group, in which, in addition to the Mexican Leon, the Real Oviedo Spanish and the Chilean Everton also appear.
This resolution could leave James without club World Cup, who said that one of the reasons that made him sign for the lion was just for the participation of the Mexican team in this tournament, which will be played for the first time with 32 teams.

“The Club World Cup also influenced. It is a big competition that I want to play and the short tournaments do well. I hope to get in good shape, but this is the present and our present is the local league,” said the top scorer of the 2014 World Cup Brazil, former soccer player of Portuguese Porto, of the French Monaco and the Spanish Real Madrid, among others.
The Lion, who has the Argentine Berizzo, former technician of Celta, Seville and Athletic of Bilbao and former selectioner of Paraguay and Chile on the front of the bench, made a strong economic effort to reinforce its workforce with a view to their participation in the renovated club world of clubs.
In addition to James, the eight -time Mexican football champion signed other international players, Chilean Rodrigo Echeverría and Uruguayan Nicolás Fonseca, and took Andrés Guardado from the retreat, who has played five World Cups with Mexico.
The lion was part of the World Cup D, next to the Brazilian Flamengo, the English Chelsea and Espérance Sportive of Tunisia.
The world’s best team tournament with its new format will take place from June 14 to July 13 in the United States.
