The Louvre Museum estimates the value of the eight French crown jewels stolen last Sunday from the Apollo Gallery at 88 million euros, according to prosecutor Laure Beccuau.

In a statement to the RTL channel, Beccuau assured that the investigations are “advancing” with the identification of at least four people who entered the Apolo gallery, where the robbery took place, which he described as “extremely spectacular.”

The prosecutor also said that “the clue that a person from inside the museum may have helped the gang of thieves is “not ruled out.”

Likewise, Beccuau considered that the assailants “will never obtain that considerable sum” of 88 million if they decide to melt or dismantle the objects.

Last Sunday’s theft, considered the one of the “century” by the French media, has created a controversy in France and a shower of criticism towards the management of the museum and the Ministry of Culture, which they criticize for not having sufficiently protected one of the most emblematic institutions in the world.
