President Donald Trump shared more than two dozen photos on Truth Social Friday afternoon showing the White House’s Lincoln Bathroom completely remodeled in marble, the latest chapter in his White House renovations, which sparked controversy when he ordered the East Wing demolished to build a $300 million ballroom.

Key data

The bathroom attached to the White House’s Lincoln Room now features marble floors and walls, which Trump said on Truth Social is “very appropriate for Abraham Lincoln’s time and, in fact, could be the marble that was there originally.”

Trump previously told NBC News that he planned to remodel the bathroom as part of the White House renovations, stating at the time that the Lincoln bathroom was “terribly” designed.

Trump said on Truth Social that the bathroom previously had green art deco tiles, which he said was “totally inappropriate for Lincoln’s time.”

Photos show a marble sink, shower and bathtub, with much of the room featuring gold accents, including faucets and flower pots, and a robe with the presidential seal hanging on the wall.

Trump also said in a Friday afternoon post that the Kennedy Center, where he took over as president earlier this year, is also being remodeled with marble and new carpeting, stating that the arts center was “stone dead, but will soon be beautiful again!”

What else do we know about Trump’s White House renovations?

Last week, the East Wing of the White House was demolished to make way for the construction of a ballroom that, according to Trump, will cost $300 million. Trump claimed in a Truth Social post last week that construction had begun, assuring that the project is privately funded and will come at no cost to the American taxpayer. The project has sparked controversy, as House Democrats have demanded the White House explain how it is funded and whether benefits were promised to donors. “The opacity of this plan reinforces concerns that President Trump is, once again, selling presidential access to individuals or entities, including foreign nationals and companies, with vested interests in federal action,” Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., wrote in a letter to Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, criticizing the administration for pursuing the project “in secret, without congressional or other oversight, or due public scrutiny.” A Washington Post, ABC News and Ipsos poll released Thursday found that 56% of the more than 2,700 adults surveyed opposed demolition of the East Wing, while only 28% supported it and another 16% were undecided. Almost all Democrats (88%) opposed the project, while 61% of Republicans supported it.

Tangent

Trump’s renewal plans have moved forward despite the month-long government shutdown and as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are set to run out this weekend. A federal judge ruled Friday afternoon that the Trump administration cannot block food stamp benefits and must use emergency funds to at least partially cover November benefits.

Surprising fact

Ticket sales at the Kennedy Center have plummeted months after Trump declared himself president, according to a Washington Post analysis. Since the beginning of September, only 57% of tickets for the productions have been sold, compared to 93% sold in fall 2024 and 80% in fall 2023.
