The MTV VMAS awards will honor the deceased singer Ozzy Osbourne during his Sunday’s gala, in an performance in which Steven Tyler and Joe Perry-members of the Aerosmith Group-, Yungblud and Nuno Bettencourt will perform some of the most emblematic songs of the musician.

According to a statement, the artists will give voice on the stage of the VMAS to a mixture of the most iconic themes of Osbourne, who died last July because of a myocardial infarction at age 76.

The organization of the event, which will be held this Sunday at the UBS Arena in New York, remembers the British as “a global rock icon, multiplatin singer -songwriter and Pop culture phenomenon” that managed to sell more than 120 million albums worldwide.

During his long career in the music industry, Osbourne won five Grammy Awards and was included twice in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the first one as part of the Heavy Black Sabbath band, in 2006, and the second as a soloist, in 2024.

“Ozzy has left an indelible mark on the history of music, with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in the Birmingham Walk of Stars, among numerous awards,” the statement underlines.

In addition, it emphasizes that its relationship with the MTV chain has “transcended decades”, since Osbourne participated in programs such as Headbenger’s Ball ‘and’ Battle For Ozzfest ‘and in 2014 he was awarded the Global Icon Award Award in the MTV EMAS.

From Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, the organization recalls that they were part of the “unique” Rock Aerosmith band, which managed to sell more than 150 million albums, while Yungblud describes it as “one of the most influential voices of the musical panorama that fuses rock and punk.”

Nuno Bettencourt, meanwhile, is a guitarist, singer -songwriter and main producer of the ‘Extreme’ rock band, nominated for the Grammy Awards.
