The Dutch consumer protection agency, ACM, said Tuesday that he had initiated an investigation into the Snapchat social networks, due to possible failures in the protection of minors against illegal vaporizer vendors.

The ACM indicated that it had indications that Snapchat was not doing enough to prevent its platform from being used to sell vaporizers to people under 18.

That would be a violation of the Digital Services Law of the European Union, which requires that a platform such as Snapchat offers adequate protection to minor users.

“A safe online environment is very important for minors. Platforms must take measures to prevent illegal products through them,” said the ACM.

“We see enough indications of possible DSA infractions by Snapchat to open an investigation.”

The Snapchat owner, Snap Inc said that he would respond to the investigation, noting that he takes the problems raised very seriously.

“We have invested huge resources to prevent malicious actors from abusing our platform and to educate Snapchat users. We constantly work to improve our proactive detection technology,” said a SNAP spokesman in a statement.

“We do not allow advertisers to promote vaporizers and try to block the results to search for illicit content. Unfortunately, there is no unique security or policy function that can eliminate all online threats or in the world around us.”

The consumer protection agency indicated that it works in close collaboration with the European Commission. He did not comment on the investigation or provided a calendar for it.
