Roger Goodell, commissioner of the National Football League (NFL), announced this Wednesday that the league will participate in the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
“The NFL is proud to participate in the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. We are excited to honor our country’s history and celebrate our collective future,” said the commissioner about the 250 years that will mark next year since the Declaration of Independence signed on July 4, 1776.
Goodell reported that the NFL and its 32 teams will join the celebrations in week 18, the last of the regular season, which will take place on the first weekend of January 2026 and during the playoffs that will culminate in Super Bowl LX, which will take place on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
“The history of the NFL reflects the history of the United States; that American spirit of resilience, innovation and teamwork that has helped football become a cultural pastime that unites us all,” Goodell stressed.
Among the actions that will be carried out to commemorate these 250 years of the nation, the league will carry out activations on the field during its games that will be played with commemorative balls with logos alluding to the date.

Referees will use special edition ‘America 250’ coins to start games, which will then be auctioned for charity on NFL platforms.
Coaches and staff of each team will wear commemorative clothing from the ‘America 250’ line, which fans will have access to through the league’s official channels.
The celebrations will extend until the April Draft to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The NFL has a constant participation in important dates in the nation. In 1976 it was part of the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the United States.
In addition, it has the ‘Salute to Service’ initiative with which, since 2011, it honors the US military community every year between weeks nine and 11 of each season.
