The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced Thursday that Mexico will have a regular American football season in 2026 again.
“We will be back in Mexico City next year, something that has very excited,” said Goodell during the Leaders In Sport conference, held at the Twickenham stadium.
The Mexican capital had been absent from the NFL International Calendar due to the renovations of the Azteca Stadium with a view to the 2026 World Cup. However, it is now once again part of the League’s plans.
The last time the NFL played a match in Mexico was in 2022, when the 49ers of San Francisco beat the Arizona cardinals 38-10.
Although the teams that will participate in the next match have not yet been confirmed, the Cowboys have already expressed interest in being part of the event.
Since 2005, the Azteca Stadium has housed six regular NFL season games.
Currently, the League is making a record number of seven international games this season, six of them in Europe. In addition, Brazil hosted a meeting.
Goodell also reaffirmed the objective of the NFL to increase to 16 the number of games outside the United States, highlighting that Asia will be the next region to be included.
Australia, meanwhile, has already been confirmed as the headquarters for a game in the next season.
