The theft of cargo trucks with metals such as gold, silver, copper, aluminum and steel has increased in the last 8 months on the roads, denounced Luis Enrique Villatoro Martínez, president of the National Association of Trash and Vehicle Protection Companies (AERPV).
“The theft in the metal sector has had an increase of 1 percent to 4 percent, which is an indicator of international variation of raw material prices; let’s think not only about the issue of the growth of the construction industry, but also of the tariff measures that are placing this type of products and have had an effect on the market,” said the manager.
Villatoro Martínez added that there is an increase in goods prices, since unfortunately organized crime tries to supply the market through the illicit trade of legally manufactured and produced products.
The price of copper has risen 10.54 percent, silver has had a rebound of 27.58 percent and gold has registered an increase of 31.13 percent from January to August 21, according to a report from the Banamex investment analysis table.
At the beginning of the stock day, the price of the ounce of gold was at 3,340 dollars, because the metal is a refuge of the central banks of China and Europe against the uncertainty and risk aversion generated by the Donald Trump tariff war. “There in that region are the most important consumer markets in Mexico, consequently the merchandise movement is decisive circular through the communication roads; the Mexico 57 highway, which passes through the Mexico State, Querétaro and Hidalgo, is the one that has the greatest criminal activity, and follows the Highway 150, which connects central Mexico with the southeast of the country,” he revealed.
“If we observe the Bajío and the West, we have loads theft sites such as the Metropolitan Zone of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Querétaro and Guanajuato,” he added.
The manager said that there is also a high theft on Highway 45, which crosses 11 municipalities in Guanajuato, where they produce 85 percent of the gross product of the entity and there is a manufacturing and automotive vocation.
The president of the AERPV stressed that 80 percent of transport assaults are made violently, that is, they kidnap the driver and even kill them.
