Cannabidiol (CBD), a non -psychoactive compound derived from the cannabis plant, has gained growing acceptance in medicine and well -being. What was previously considered part of alternative medicine, is now being integrated into the clinical field thanks to the growing scientific evidence that supports its therapeutic benefits. Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated their effectiveness in the treatment of various conditions, including epilepsy, chronic pain, anxiety, sleep disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.

Among these new applications, a recent investigation funded by the United States government has revealed that the CBD could play a key role in the prevention of oral infections, particularly in the use of dental prostheses. The study found that dental prosthesis coatings with CBD have significant bactericidal effects against gram-positive bacteria and effectively eliminate biofilms, thus reducing the incidence of infections.

This finding becomes relevant due to the high prevalence of oral infections, especially in older adults. Dental prostheses can house microorganisms that lead to inflammation, pain and even bone loss. The CBD, thanks to its antimicrobial and anti -inflammatory properties, is emerging as a viable and safe alternative for the prevention of these infections.

It should be noted that this study is not the first to suggest the benefits of CBD in oral health. Previous investigations have indicated that cannabidiol can help reduce inflammation, pain and fight certain pathogens. However, although the results are promising, more clinical studies are required to validate their effectiveness and determine adequate protocols for its implementation in medical devices.

CBD market growth has been exponential, promoted by the legalization of medicinal cannabis in various regions and the growing public awareness about its benefits. However, the regulation of the CBD varies significantly between countries, so it is essential that consumers be adequately informed and consult with health professionals before incorporating it into their well -being routines.

Although CBD has demonstrated potential in the field of oral health, its implementation in dental prostheses still requires scientific and regulatory validation. Emerging evidence suggests that medicinal cannabis will continue to play a key role in health innovation, consolidating itself as an ally in improving the quality of life.
