The Shocking Addition To The Masters Of The Universe Movie So Far That You Probably Missed

A legion of recognizable characters were on display in the Masters of the Universe trailer, allowing the film to show far it’s going in bringing the world of Eternia to life. Although the film will evidently be spending a significant portion of its time on modern-day Earth, it’s made apparent that there will be plenty of Eternia to see, complete with all sorts of familiar faces.

The footage in the Masters of the Universe trailer confirmed that famous characters on both sides of the conflict between Human and Skeletor will be on hand. On He-Man’s side are Teela, Mechaneck, Man At Arms, Battle Cat a.k.a Cringer, and more. Skeletor, on the other hand, will be supported by several of his traditional allies, including Evil-Lyn and Beast Man.

Goat Man, An Obscure Masters Of The Universe Villain, Will Appear In The Live-Action Reboot

At the 1:40 mark in the Masters of the Universe trailer, a partially obscured character can be spotted standing next to the Skeletor henchman known as Spikor. The straps on his chest and ram-like horns on his head identify him as Goat Man, a lesser known member of the Evil Warriors.

Goat Man is a deep-cut addition to the Masters of the Universe cast, considering that he had no presence in the most well-known He-Man adaptation, which was the 1980s Filmation cartoon series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Instead, Goat Man is remembered as a secondary antagonist in a single He-Man book, 1985’s Secret of the Dragon Egg, where he was introduced as a subordinate to Beast Man.

His only animated appearance came in the form of Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation show, but even that was just a non-speaking, minion role. The decision to incorporate a character as minor as Goat Man speaks volumes about the live-action reboot’s commitment to serving as a thorough deep dive into the He-Man lore.

Goat Man further diversifies an already impressive line up of Evil Warriors, the name given to Skeletor’s team of villains in the Masters of the Universe franchise. Alison Brie is playing Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s second-in-command. Beast Man was briefly shown jumping on a car in the trailer, and both Trap Jaw and Tri-Klops were shown as well.

With Spikor and Goat Man, that gives Skeletor six confirmed henchmen for his battle with He-Man and his allies. And given that the trailer only provided a short preview of Skeletor and his army, it’s likely that at least a few more will appear in some capacity, either as fodder for He-Man or worthy opponents for his fellow heroes.

As Masters of the Universe nears its long-awaited release, confirmation of major villains, such as Mer-Man, Kobra Khan, and Whiplash could follow, unless the film plans to hold some back for a potential sequel.
