The start of the federal trial against Ryan Routh, accused of trying to assassinate the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, last September on a golf course in Florida when he was a candidate, was delayed until September 2025, according to court documents.

Routh’s defense had asked federal magistrate Aileen Cannon to postpone the start of the trial, which was scheduled for February 10, given the “magnitude” of the case.

In response, the judge established that Routh will be tried in Fort Pierce on September 8, 2025, almost a year after the assassination attempt near West Palm Beach.

Routh’s defense argued that he has yet to analyze information from 18 cell phones, three desktop computers, three tablets and five hard drives, among others.

On September 30, Routh pleaded not guilty to the five charges he faces, including attempted murder of a major presidential candidate, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, and assault on a federal official.

The 58-year-old man was arrested on September 15 at a Florida golf course owned by former President Trump (2017-2021), where a Secret Service agent discovered him armed with a semi-automatic rifle hidden behind a row of bushes.

After being spotted, he fled the scene but was arrested the same day of the events. He has also been charged with the offenses of possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number in connection with the attempted murder.

Routh, who in a handwritten letter acknowledged his intention to commit the crime and regretted having failed, could face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.

Added to this is that last Wednesday Florida prosecutor Ashley Moody issued an indictment against Routh and issued an arrest warrant against him.

The accusation from the state of Florida is motivated by a traffic accident in which a six-year-old minor was “seriously injured,” after the closure of an interstate highway when state and federal agents detained Routh, who moments before had crashed. on the run
