The unemployment rate in Mexico reached 2.8% of the economically active population (PEA), the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reported Thursday.

The data on unemployment is less than the 2.9% index of the same month of 2024, although greater than 2.7% in June, said the autonomous agency in its report.

The unemployed population was 1.7 million people and the unemployment rate (TD), 2.7% of the PEA. Regarding July 2024, the unemployed population decreased in 85,000 people and the TD was lower at 0.2 percentage points, the INEGI explained.

The Pea of ​​the seventh month of the year reached 62.5 million people aged 15 and over, which represented a participation rate of 60.2% and a higher active population in 390,000 people as of July 2024.

De la Pea, 60.8 million people were occupied during July, 475,000 more than in the same month before.

Subocupados, that is, those who declared need and availability to work more hours, were 4.5 million, 7.3% of the employed population, same amount as in June 2024.

Informality rate increased during July to 56.1%

Informal workers in Julio totaled 34.1 million, which increased the informality rate to 56.1%.

The population occupied by activity sector was distributed with 44.1%of the total in services, in trade 19.7%, in manufactures 16%; in 11% agricultural activities and in construction 7.8%.

While in “other economic activities”, which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply, 0.7% was occupied, and another 0.7% did not specify activity.

By gender, the female pea in July was 25 million and the male of 35.8 million, with a participation rate of 46.5% in women of working age and 75.7% in men.

The figures reflect the economic behavior of Mexico, which grew 0.6% in the second quarter of the year, despite the alerts of recession by the commercial war unleashed by the United States and after the growth of 1.5% of GDP in 2024.
