The Witcher 3 fans might forever debate whether Triss or Yennefer makes a better match for Geralt, but Geralt’s voice actor wouldn’t place either option as his number one pick. Despite having a clear preference between Triss and Yennefer, his ultimate choice is another character entirely.
Speaking to GoatedSynro on YouTube, Geralt’s voice actor, Doug Cockle, revealed that Shani takes the cake for him. Asked to rank Geralt’s love interests, he stated that, “Yen is three, Triss is two, and Shani’s one.” While he acknowledged that the take would “set the cat among the pigeons,” Cockle argues that, despite her lack of fawning over Geralt, Shani both “loves him” and is simply “good fun.”

Cockle isn’t trying to reinvent the fundamental order of things, as he still places Yen and Triss above some alternative love interests. He cites Syanna as his least favorite, calling her a “psycho,” and puts Keira Metz at fourth after acknowledging that she’s essentially a “romantic side quest.”
Triss beats out Yen for two reasons: number one, Cockle is a fan of red hair, and number two, she’s more of a “friend with benefits,” as opposed to Yen acting more like a “naggy mom.” Even so, Cockle acknowledges that both characters are both “all that,” possibly dodging some complaints that might arrive from Yen fans.

Blood And Wine Wasn’t The Only Hit
If you don’t remember Shani in The Witcher 3, you probably never embarked on the Hearts of Stone DLC. While she played a major role in the first Witcher game, she dropped off the map until the release of Hearts of Stone, where she returned as a possible love interest. With Cockle citing her as his favorite pick, Shani’s inclusion might be worth the price of admission alone.
On top of that, Hearts of Stone delivers 10+ hours of questing that matches the standard of quality set by the base game. Blood and Wine‘s win in the RPG category at The Game Awards has given it more lasting fame, but both expansions are fantastic across the board. Blood and Wine takes a step back from romance for most of its runtime, giving Hearts of Stone the advantage in one category.
With any luck, Geralt’s amorous adventures might not be over quite yet. Rumors have repeatedly suggested the release of another expansion for The Witcher 3 in the near future, so he might get another chance to spend some more time with his love interests before the focus shifts to Ciri in The Witcher 4.
