The Witcher 4-6 Release Plans Have Gamers Seriously Concerned

With CD Projekt RED‘s The Witcher franchise expected to continue with The Witcher IV in upcoming years, fans are excited to see Ciri step into the titular role as her surrogate father Geralt of Rivia hangs up his swords and enjoys a bit of much-earned retirement.

However, according to a rumor which shook the gaming community back in 2025, CDPR has much bigger plans for Ciri with one leak revealing that she could be heading her very own trilogy.

The New Witcher Trilogy Is Attempting Something Massive

The Witcher IV aside, CD Projekt RED already has quite the full docket, with the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 currently being in development, as well as The Witcher Series, which is expected to be a spin-off from the main Witcher series, The Witcher Remake, and Project Hadar, which promises a “standalone IP distinct from The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077.” As such, CDPR has quite a lot on its plate, but it seems as though the ambition does not end there.

According to various leaks and rumors, as well as a hit Tweet by SpawnYaard on Twitter, The Witcher 4 will be just the start of Ciri’s journey, with The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 expected to continue her story in a trilogy-style format. Not only that, but the leak suggests that CDPR aims to release the trilogy over a mere six-year period. This comes after CDPR confirmed the rumor during a November 2025 earnings call.

“Our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between TWA and TW5, between TW5 and TW6, and so on.”

Can CDPR Really Pull This Off?

Whether CDPR can actually release three open-world RPGs in the space of six years remains to be seen, but quite frankly, I am hoping that it is just not possible. Despite being a huge fan of The Witcher franchise, and CDPR in general, I believe that this is just too ambitious, and we have seen what rushing a game can do for the studio in the past.

Nevertheless, fans expressed their own thoughts on the project, with many believing that it is just too ambitious. “The whole three games in six years doesn’t seem realistic at all,” one shared on SpawnYaard’s Tweet. “I think they’re saying that, but it’s probably going to be more like two games in six years.” However, another fan was just excited for more of The Witcher universe, adding, “I can’t wait. I’ve never replayed The Witcher 3 because it was just too good. I always said I’ll replay it just before or after the 4th game comes out, so I’ll be playing it within the 6 years too.”

For now, we can just hope that The Witcher 4 releases in a timely manner and without the buggy launch of Cyberpunk 2077, but whilst still maintaining the magic of the franchise so far.
