MONTERREY.— Miguel Ángel Martínez Millán, president of the National Chamber of Cargo Transportation (Canacar), stated that the measures taken by the government of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo have minimized the number of tractor-trailer thefts, but now they are more violent.
“In the last 10 or 12 months the events, although they are smaller in number, are now more violent and threaten the integrity of the operators and we have deaths,” declared the businessman within the framework of the Annual Meeting of Industrialists ( RAI), Industry as an engine of prosperity and well-being.
With the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection (SPPC) and Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo we have been working for a couple of weeks and the strategy that leads us to improve the industry, he said.
Transport theft cannot be resolved in a month, so we are patient in combating this crime, stated the transporter.
“Claudia Sheinbaum’s government officials have to work to solve the theft of cargo transportation, as well as make sure Mexico is at peace and the operators can do their jobs,” he considered.
According to the businessman, right now no one wants to work as a freight truck driver, which has caused a deficit of 56 thousand operators, but they are already in contact with the federal government so that there is less violence.
“To see how we can develop technicians who, because the operator has a very good income, is a technician who has an income of 40 thousand pesos, 50 thousand pesos and up to 35 thousand pesos, at least obviously because our work team has make expenses on the road, food, food, hotel, so everything has to have enough income to do its job well.”
The president of Canacar recalled which are the routes where robberies are committed the most in the Mexican Republic.
“The Valley of Mexico for natural reasons, because it is the largest consumer in the country, I mean the entire metropolitan area and all the surrounding states,” said Miguel Ángel Martínez Millán.
“Puebla, for example, is number one in theft of cargo transportation, but what is stolen in Puebla does not go to Puebla, it is stolen because it is the way to Mexico City, Querétaro, Arco Norte, the State of Mexico , Tlaxcala and Morelos,” said the president of Canacar.
The price of insurance increased more than 20 percent due to the insecurity and violence recorded on Mexican roads, he commented.
An average of 565 million tons of merchandise are moved annually through Mexico’s road network, he said.
“If it is cold the theft is clothing for that season, if there are no cars they are stolen and if they do not have steel imports that also happens,” he concluded.
