The theft of insured vehicles in Mexico grew 3.4% in the last year, while the recovery of units fell to 41%, the lowest figure in the last six years, according to the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS).
The organization reported that from February 2024 to January 63,303 stolen vehicles were reported throughout the country, between light, heavy units and motorcycles. It was the second year to thread with a growth of thefts.
The Amis detailed in a statement that 173 vehicles insured per day are stolen on average, compared to 168 that were recorded in the previous period.
He added that the robbery with violence remained elevated with 58% of the cases, a trend that has remained almost unchanged since 2019.
Sinaloa at the head
Sinaloa headed the list of entities with the greatest increases in the theft of insured units, with 51% more incidents compared to the previous year.

Tabasco followed with a 39%rise, Chiapas with 35%, Mexico City with 14.95%and Puebla with 12.75%.
Norma Alicia Rosas, director of the Amis, said that joint work is reinforced with authorities to prevent and combat the theft of vehicles and auto parts in the country.
