The television series One hundred years of lonelinessinspired by the main novel by the Colombian Nobel Prize winner in Literature Gabriel García Márquez, will be released on December 11, the Netflix platform reported this Tuesday.

The series, Netflix detailed in a statement, will have two parts of eight episodes, the first of which will begin on that date.

“As a filmmaker, as a Colombian, it has been an honor and a huge challenge to work on a project of the complexity and responsibility of ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’,” said Laura Mora, one of the directors.

He added that in this initiative he has tried to “always understand the difference between literary and audiovisual language, to be able to build images that contain something of the beauty, poetry and depth of a work that has impacted the entire world.”

“We have done it with love and respect for the novel, with the help of an exceptional technical and human team,” Mora added.

The other director of the series, Alex García López, pointed out that “directing this project has been quite a challenge and at the same time an adventure, finally in life taking risks is necessary to give meaning to what we do.”

“When I immersed myself in the adaptation of ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’, my intention was to create something authentic with the level of an international production, since the story deserves it,” said García.

Last April, the first trailer for the series was published, in which Colonel Aureliano Buendía, played by actor Claudio Cataño, was shown in front of the firing squad.

“Many years later, in front of the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía had to remember that remote afternoon when his father took him to see ice,” says an omniscient voice when reading the first paragraph of ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’, novel published in 1967.

The series was recorded in Colombia and filmed entirely in Spanish with the support of García Márquez’s family, especially his sons Rodrigo and Gonzalo, who are executive producers.

In addition to Cataño, other actors appear in the series such as Jerónimo Barón, Marco González, Leonardo Soto, Susana Morales, Ella Becerra, Carlos Suárez, Moreno Borja and Santiago Vásquez.

The series, produced by Dynamo, will reach Netflix’s more than 260 million subscribers in 190 countries.

One hundred years of lonelinesswhich was published in 1967 in Buenos Aires by Editorial Sudamericana with an initial circulation of 8,000 copies, is considered a masterpiece of universal literature that has sold more than 50 million units and has been translated into more than 40 languages.

Synopsis:
