Butchers and plankers on the southern border of Mexico denounced this Friday the illegal entry of meat from Guatemala, which is why they demanded that the authorities put up a sanitary fence to prevent the entry of the product “of dubious origin.”

Jorge Ortiz Arévalo, legal representative of the bailor company of the Tapachula Regional Rastro, the main city on the border, assured the media that they have detected the entry of beef heads, viscera and stewed meat that is introduced from Guatemala to Tapachula.

“They have detained several taxis that come full of that product to Tapachula, that is why we are going to ask for a sanitary fence,” he declared.

The businessman asserted that in Guatemala there is no control comparable to Mexico on animal health, which is why he warned of consequences due to possible diseases in cattle.

Ortiz Arévalo described that the meat can pass to Mexico through the rafts that travel on the border River Suchiate, where there is no control of the crossings.

He also stated that there is irregular entry of livestock from Guatemala to Mexico.

“Not only have we detected it, even the federal authorities have declared that a lot of cattle are coming in from Guatemala,” he said.

He recalled that before there was a campaign promoted from the United States to verify the trails and the type of livestock they killed, but now it has been more than four years since they have come to the Mexico-Guatemala border.

He exemplified that in the city around 100 head of cattle are consumed daily for hot meat, but until now, only 30% were slaughtered at the Tapachula regional slaughterhouse, complying with the quality standards required by current health regulations.

The leader of the sector announced that several tablajeros who sell meat in Tapachula have joined this commitment to health with the citizens and have decided to sacrifice their livestock in this regional slaughterhouse.

“We want to take advantage of the situation of this new municipal government, headed by our friend President Yamil Melgar Bravo, and we are sure that with these measures the percentage of health certainty of the meat sold in the markets will considerably increase,” he expressed. .
