December “turns on the red lights” for the cargo and security motor transportation industry due to an increase in the number of theft of goods in transit in Mexico, denounced Ricardo Bustamante Medina, president of the Mexican Association of Private Security Companies and Satellite Industry. (AMESIS).

During December, a month in which merchandise theft increases between 20 percent and 25 percent, loads of groceries, clothing, footwear, toys, electronics, pharmaceuticals, construction materials and appliances are sought, the representative recalled.

He added that the trend of theft of goods on the roads reduces slightly after January 6 of each year.

The business leader stated that the theft of trucks damages the economy of companies by promoting the “black market”, while December is the month of highest risk for transportation and the State of Mexico has been in first place for several years. in assaults.

Today three out of every 10 thefts of merchandise from cargo transportation are recorded in the State of Mexico, followed by Puebla with 23 percent of the thefts, according to members of the Mexican Association of Private Security Companies and Satellite Industry.

In Guanajuato, 12 percent of merchandise thefts were reported, Jalisco had 9 percent of the events, San Luis Potosí recorded 7 percent of the crimes, as well as Querétaro had 5 percent of the thefts, he added.

Each of the incidents were attended to by the Single Point of Contact (PUC) owned by AMESIS, in collaboration with federal and state authorities, with which the organization maintains agreements.

The president of AMESIS stated that 84 percent of the robberies involved violence against the operators, where they lost their belongings, cargo and even the unit.

The products most stolen from transportation in the months of December are groceries, which top the list with 23.3 percent, followed by food with 13.3 percent, steel with 10 percent, fuel with 10 percent, auto parts 10 percent, and parcels. 10 percent, hardware 6.7 percent and others 3.5 percent.

“AMESIS identified that the months with the highest incidence of robberies were January, July and October of this year,” said Ricardo Bustamante Medina.

The highways with the highest risk for the transfer of goods are Mexico-Querétaro, which leads with 25 percent, Mexico-Puebla 20 percent, Mexico-Pachuca 13 percent and Circuito Exterior Mexiquense with 9 percent.

In recent years, theft of cargo and merchandise transportation has registered high levels, affecting businessmen in various industries, including private security.

AMESIS follows the commitment to strengthen the motor transport sector and contribute to the professionalization of the culture of locating stolen goods.

“At the end of November 2024, an effectiveness level of 99.5 percent was maintained in the recovery of vehicles reported with a confirmed merchandise theft event in the first 30 minutes.”
