Mexico City, (EFE) .- Authorities destroyed in the Mexican capital 10,892 apocryphal products that illegally held the Lego brand, the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) reported Thursday.
The toys, insured in the Customs of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, were confiscated after complaints for violations of the protected industrial models of the Danish brand, in procedures initiated before the IMPI in December 2024 and February 2025.
The act was supervised by the general director of the IMPI, Santiago Nieto, who explained that the confiscation was carried out under the procedure called ‘Border Measures’, which allows to act in coordination with the country’s customs before complaints of infringement of intellectual property rights.
After exhausting the procedural stages, the merchandise denounced by the same LEGO group was destroyed.

“These actions are added to the second stage of the ‘Operation Cleaning’ strategy, headed by the Government of the Republic and the Ministry of Economy, Nieto said.
Arturo Ishbak, responsible for the intellectual property strategy for Grupo Lego in Latin America, said that the company has “a zero policy of piracy tolerance.”
“Our consumers, both children and adults are priority, as well as the quality standards in our products, so with this type of actions we protect not only intellectual property rights in the company, but the integrity and health of our users,” he added.
