The Government of Mexico reported Thursday of the discovery of the remains of the tenth and last mining caught since August 2022 in the coal mine ‘El Pinabete’, in Coahuila.

The announcement occurs 918 days after the collapse of August 3, 2022, which left 10 miners trapped, starting the rescue work.

In a joint statement, the authorities detailed that the bone remains were visualized this morning at the ‘GSN6 Norte’ gallery of the carboniferous well.

“It has been possible to observe a shoes with bone remains inside, so the necessary works will be implemented to guarantee the safety conditions specified by the Biological Findings Recovery Protocol,” says the Bulletin.

The work was carried out among the National Civil Protection Coordination, the Federal Electricity Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the Coahuila Prosecutor’s Office and Search Teams.

The authorities added that they will continue with the “search and recovery of the total remains at the intersection of the GSN6 Norte Gallery and the vertical shooting No.2”.

They also mentioned that these actions respond to the instructions of President Claudia Sheinbaum, who promised to fulfill the promise of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador to deliver the remains of the miners caught their families.

The first two bodies were found on December 28, 2023, after more than 500 days of the accident, when ‘El Pinabete’, in the carboniferous municipality of Sabinas, in Coahuila, was flooded after a collapse of the abandoned adjoining mine called ‘Conchas Conchas North’.

After the incident in the mine, which has been indicated for not having the permits and regulations in the matter, AMLO promised to recover the immediate months after the collapse, but later the same president predicted that the process would last until 2024.

The collapse in ‘El Pinabete’ reactivated the controversy in Mexico for the performance of the mining companies in the carboniferous region, where there have been more than 100 deaths of people dedicated to mining, according to the Pasta de Conchos family, which groups relatives of Deaths in the mine of that name.
