The Ministry of Energy invited private parties to invest in electricity generation in priority areas of the country, and promised them resolutions and evaluations in record time.

He assured that the call organizes the process, speeds up the attention of the requests and groups the projects by region, which will allow optimization of the reinforcement works and provide financial viability.

The head of the branch, Luz Elena González, led the information session of the Call for Priority Attention to Applications for Electric Generation Permits, where she described the process as innovative and a radical change in the way permits are granted by the energy sector.

“It is an instrument that aims to clearly establish the mechanism for priority attention to requests for generation permits and interconnection of strategic power plants,” declared the official, according to a statement from the agency.

The secretary said that the call orders and prioritizes the attention of requests based on technical and geographical criteria of binding planning that ensure the strengthening of the National Electric System in priority areas.

“We will prioritize those projects that provide reliability, continuity, quality and security to the National Electric System, that promote energy justice and that incorporate innovation and technological development,” he stated.

He maintained that the attention periods that range from the submission of the request to the National Energy Control Center (Cenace) to the interconnection contract according to the manual will be reduced from between six and eight months, to only three.

He also highlighted the existence of a single entry and exit window through the National Energy Commission, and sustainability criteria in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment.

He stated that the call does not include distributed generation permits for self-consumption in its different modalities, cogeneration, or new participation schemes for mixed schemes, only generation permits for the national electricity market.

The secretary explained that in total the projects will provide a capacity of just over 6,000 megawatts, which represents an approximate investment of 7.14 billion dollars.

He explained that of this capacity, 3,790 megawatts correspond to photovoltaic energy generation and 2,100 megawatts to wind energy.

He assured that the call is based on the planning of what the country needs by 2030 to meet the energy transition goal of at least 38% of electricity generation with renewable energies, for which the support of the private sector is required.
