The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, will modify his Government on Friday, according to local media, a few days after the resignation of his Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland.
Although the renewal of the cabinet had been planned for weeks, the crisis unleashed by Freeland’s unexpected resignation has forced Trudeau to recompose the Government.
The renewal also comes as Trudeau faces growing opposition within the ruling Liberal Party over his handling of his relations with Freeland.

In the last few hours, at least 15 Liberal MPs have openly requested that Trudeau resign.
Canada’s new Finance Minister, Dominic LeBlanc, who also holds the Public Security and Intergovernmental Affairs portfolios, told CBC public television this Thursday that the former governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, Mark Carney, will not be appointed minister.
Freeland’s resignation came after Trudeau informed her last Friday that he was going to replace her in Finance with Carney, according to leaks that appeared in the media.
Several ministers in the current cabinet have declared that they will not stand for re-election in the next general election, scheduled for October 2025. Others, like LeBlanc, are in charge of several ministries.
Since Freeland’s resignation, Trudeau has barely appeared in public and has not made any statements to the media.
