Washington (EFE) .- President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Thursday asking for the dismantling of the Department of Education, thus fulfilling one of his electoral promises, according to media.
According to an informative sheet of the White House that will be published on Thursday obtained by the USA Today and other media newspaper, the president will order the Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, to take “all the necessary measures” to facilitate the closure of the department and that “the educational authority to the states” is returned.
The signing of the document is expected to be carried out in a ceremony in the White House that is expected to attend several Republican governors such as Ron Desantis (Florida) or Glenn Youngkin (Virginia), as well as state education commissioners.

And although the department cannot be closed without the approval of the Congress, in recent days the Trump administration has carried out a series of actions to weaken it.
McMahon announced in a statement that he had decided to put in administrative decline in half of his staff, as of March 21.
When Trump came to power last January, the department had 4,133 workers and after this decision the figure will be reduced to 2,183.
The president has suggested that he could get enough support from Congress to formally close the department, but it is not yet clear if Trump has obtained the support of a Democratic legislator.

In addition, according to the NBC chain, Trump’s executive order will instruct McMahon to ensure that the agency’s resources are not used in initiatives or projects that promote diversity, equity and inclusion policies, or activities related to gender ideology.
The Republicans were very critical of the Department of Education under the mandate of Democrat Joe Biden (2021-2025), particularly with the decisions of forgiving student loans and extending protections against sexual discrimination in education to the people of the LGTBI collective.
The Department of Education, among other things, is responsible for distributing federal funds to states for students without resources. His closure was one of the president’s electoral promises in his plan to reduce the public apparatus.
