Projects in these areas can lead to a possible multiplier effect on employment, commerce and national supply, says the director of Sarens in Mexico.

The Mexico Plan and the Organization of the 2026 Soccer Cup, which organize Mexico, the United States and Canada, represent catalysts to detonate investment in key sectors such as construction, mobility and services, José Aceves, director of the Sarens firm in Mexico on Wednesday.

“It should be noted that both the Mexico Plan and the 2026 World Cup organization could be the necessary catalysts to reverse the negative trend by impulseing investment in these key sectors,” he told EFE, in line with the expectations of the builder guild in Mexico.

The manager cited an ‘Research and Markets report that points out that construction in the country registered a 7.5% growth between 2002 and 2024, while projecting an additional 4.5% increase in the next four years (2025-2029).

Aceves added that the construction market value could expand from 1.93 billion pesos in 2024 to 2.56 billion pesos in 2029.

The Sarens executive said that “urban mobility projects, social housing and local roads can lead to a possible multiplier effect on employment, trade and national supply that, together with the ability to execute these plans, as well as macroeconomic conditions, will continue to shape the investment rate.”

Only in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, headquarters of the tournament, an investment of 225,000 million pesos is calculated in expansion and modernization of stages, urban works, airport improvements and logistics, as announced by the authorities of the host governments.

Among the emblematic projects is the remodeling of the Azteca Stadium, which will expand its capacity of 87,000 to 90,000 spectators, in addition to incorporating new areas ‘VIP (exclusive)’ and dressing rooms that meet the FIFA standards.

In parallel, mobility plans and expansion of the metro network are executed in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico, one of the strategic areas identified by Aceves.

The Mexican Chamber of Construction Industry (CMIC) agreed that the 2026 World Cup will be infrastructure detonator, while calling to double the investment in infrastructure up to 4% of the gross domestic product (GDP), in a context in which the sector adds 14 months of monthly falls to thread.

Likewise, the president of the CMIC, Luis Méndez Jaled, warned that there are lags that must be addressed as the sewage deficit, the need to modernize mobility and deficiencies in tourist infrastructure at the participating headquarters that will house 13 games.

Aceves highlighted the opportunity for companies such as Sarens and the benefit for crane rental services, heavy loads and special transport in the midst of accelerated modernization to months of the 2026 World Cup.

The Belgian company has already participated in strategic projects in Mexico such as the construction of the Mexico-Toluca intercity train, the expansion of the suburban train to AIFA, the new two mouth refinery and the Kingnosa wind farm, the largest in the country.

His international experience also includes the reconstruction of the main stage of the Tomorrowland Festival in 2025.
