The Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (SECIHTI) works on the manufacture of medical devices, satellites, lithium batteries, semiconductors and drones for public safety, as well as in the extraction of lithium to stop depending on other nations.

“The estimated investment for this year – of these strategic projects – is around 500 million pesos,” said Marco Antonio Moreno Ibarra, general director of Development, Technology and Innovation Transfer of the SECIHTI.

With the development of strategic projects such as medical devices, satellites, lithium batteries, semiconductors and drones for public safety is not to depend on technology from other countries and there is a technological sovereignty, he added.

The official said that Mexico must take the next step in having technological and food sovereignty, so it requires building and cultivating its own products.

In the presentation of Talent Land Mexico, an event that drives entrepreneurs, developers and technology companies, the official added that researchers from universities, public centers and government offices are taking and applying the experience of those who already did each of the technological developments, recalled the representative of the newly dependent.

“There are projects for the manufacture of medical devices being used by the hospitals and clinics of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), there you are working with the IMSS, which helps the medical devices not stay in the laboratory, but are used by doctors in the operational phase,” he said

The lithium value chain is being developed, especially in the extraction of critical mineral, in the manufacture of batteries and recycling plants of the material used by electric vehicles, said Marco Antonio Moreno Ibarra.

“We are building a satellite project for the observation of the Earth, which will obtain images of remote perception to observe the nature and security issues (public),” he said.

Other researchers are developing semiconductors to generate a national ecosystem of that industry and also work on a project for the strengthening of the corn chain, beans and milk, food of vital importance in the diet of Mexicans, he said.

“It seems to me that this is very important, because it has a direct benefit with the food of the population, you also work on other projects with the development of non -manned aerial vehicles, which develops hand in hand with the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar),” he explained.

In the problem of Sargazo, an algae that invades the paradisiacal beaches of Cancun, and Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, works with the Secretary of the Navy, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) to stop it the affectation in tourism activity

“We want this project that the sargazo does not become a problem, but with that algae produce biodiesel in a plant or even produce fabric fibers,” he said.

Talent Land will be held in Mexico City in April 2026, after for more than eight years it was held in Guadalajara.
