The Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris) reported that six of 289 monitored beaches are not suitable for recreational use due to high levels of fecal pollution, which could represent a health risk
The results come from the first sampling of the 2025 Clean Playas program, carried out prior to the Holy Week holiday period, which evaluated the quality of the water on 289 beaches located in 76 tourist destinations of the 17 coastal entities of the country.

The beaches that did not pass the test by exceeding 200 fecal enterococci per 100 milliliters of water, threshold established by the World Health Organization, are:
- Baja California: Playa de Rosarito and Playa de Rosarito I, Playa de Tijuana and Playa de Tijuana I.
- Guerrero: Icacos Beach (Acapulco).
- Nayarit: Sayulita Beach (Banderas Bay).
The health authority explained that 2,337 samples were taken at 393 different points and that 283 beaches did comply with the criteria for recreational use. However, the six mentioned beaches exceed the limits and could cause infections or other health effects.
The health agency reported that it already works together with the state authorities of Baja California, Guerrero and Nayarit so that the beach committees implement urgent sanitation actions that allow to recover the optimal conditions in these destinations.

In contrast, Oasis de Puerto Vallarta beach, which in December 2024 had been classified as not suitable, now achieved safe levels and was declared suitable for recess.
In addition to informing about the results, Cofepris called on the population to maintain the cleaning of the beaches during these vacations, remembering that the care of the environment is a shared responsibility.
