The torrential rains that hit the country last week have left 64 people dead and more than 60 missing, the Government reported this Monday, which announced that it is deploying help and machinery to address the extensive damage.

In Sunday’s report, the authorities had put the deaths at 44, due to the heavy rainfall that occurred between October 6 and 9, which caused floods, landslides and left thousands of people homeless in the states of Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro and San Luis Potosí.

Laura Velázquez, National Coordinator of Civil Protection, reported remotely during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s press conference that in the state of Veracruz, 29 deaths and 18 missing people were reported, and in the central Hidalgo state, 21 deaths and 43 missing people were reported, being one of the most affected.
