The National Transport Association (ANTAC) denounced this Monday that government authorities threatened to open an investigation file against its leader David Estévez due to the national strike of transporters that is blocking the country’s main roads, Quadratín publishes.

“We regret that peaceful protest is the only way to hear our claim, but today we know that the only way to not be robbed, extorted, killed or disappear on the roads is to avoid taking those roads. We prefer for a day or 5, rather than never returning home,” claimed the members of the association.

ANTAC also declared that between 35 and 40 transporters are victims of highway crimes, stating that the blockades are so that the government takes into account their demands: “zero thefts, zero extortions and zero deaths,” they demanded.

For her part, during a press conference, the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, responded to the demands of the transporters, warning that blocking federal highways is a crime and that there is already concern about the impact on roads due to the national strike.

He also announced that many of the transport leaders and farmers already had investigation folders or had a record of having been in prison.

“That there is a blockade that puts life at risk (…) is very serious, he pointed out. “We have to talk, to persuade the people who are on the other side and use the elements that we have to use to convince them,” he pointed out.

He also pointed out that they seek to establish dialogues with the members of ANTAC: “They say that there is a lack of attention when we are telling them at all times, here is the table ready, come and talk,” he reiterated.
