The United States Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) reported on Wednesday that last February it arrested 8,347 undocumented immigrants crossing the southwest border for its various entry points, a 94% year -on -year drop and a decrease of 71% intermensual.

“The national arrests of the United States Border Patrol (USBP) averaged approximately 330 a day in February, the first full month since the President (Trump) issued new executive orders to ensure the border. This is the national average of arrests in history, ”said CBP in a statement.

More recently, specifically 11 days ago, the US president, Donald Trump, communicated a drastic reduction of border crossings during February, the first full month of his mandate and ended the “invasion”, the way in which he usually refers to the arrival of migrants to the country.

“President Trump and Secretary Noem have sent a clear message: if he crosses the border illegally, he will be deported without trying again the next day or in a few hours. As a result, CBP meetings with undocumented immigrants have decreased dramatically, ”they said Wednesday from CBP.

The American immigration authorities had already reported last month a reduction of 85% of the crosses on the southern border with Mexico during the first 11 days of the second Trump government, which he assumed on January 20, compared to the same period of 2024.

In addition, between mid -January and the end of February, the CBP says it participated in strategic control operations in California, Arizona and the northwest of the Pacific during which it seized “more than 4,800 kilos of drugs”, mainly cocaine and fentanyl; and to a lesser extent heroin, marijuana, amphetamine, ketamine and ecstasy.

Trump came to power with the promise of carrying out a massive deportation of migrants, which he usually calls “criminals.”

It is estimated that more than 11 million people live in the United States without legal status, many of which have been in the country for decades and suppose a significant part of the workforce.

Among other issues, the Republican has militarized the border, has ordered raids in various parts of the country and has revoked migratory benefits for various nationalities.
