Peter Navarro, commercial advisor of President Donald Trump, said that the increase in the 50% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum will not enter into force on Wednesday.
Earlier this day, Trump had ordered that a 25% general tariff over all imports of steel and aluminum, scheduled to enter into force on Wednesday, doubled for Canada after the Prime Minister of Ontario, Doug Ford, announced that he would impose a surcharge to electricity exports to the United States.
Ford subsequently declared that he would suspend the surcharge after talking with US Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick.

When a CNBC reporter asked him if that meant that the 50% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum would not take effect on Wednesday, Navarro replied: “That is correct.”
After the interview, a White House spokesman declared in a statement that the previously planned tariff of 25% on steel and aluminum will enter into force for Canada and all other US business partners at midnight.
